Lilleshall Triple Expansion Steam Pumping Engine

Purchased by the Southend Water Works, No.282, built in 1931.

Lilleshall Triple Expansion Steam Pumping Engine

Originally there were three engines, but two were scrapped after decommissioning in 1964. The engine is fitted with an extended crank to operate two sets of ram pumps to purify and pump water to Southend. (2007)

Worthington Simpson Duplex 14x14x12 No.5017936

This very large duplex was obtained as a transferred asset to the Museum of Power, Langford in Essex from the Museum of London reserve collection. The pump is unrestored and is on display at the Museum of Power. (2006)

Joseph Evans Duplex 4x4x4 No.31417

This pump is owned by Norman Heath and is on display at the Museum of Power at Langford in Essex. This pump was one of two purchased from East Greenwich Gas Works in 1971 and used at Caerphilly Tar Plant pumping tar. They were installed in the mid 1970s and used up until the end of 1985. The second one forms part of the collection No.29798. (2006)

Worthington Simpson Duplex 3x11/2x3 No.5066036

This pump was purchased by Norman Heath from Weymouth and is believed to have been used at the Portland MoD base. It is on display at the Museum of Power, Langford in Essex. It is fitted with a Hayward-Tyler pump cover. (2007)

Cameron Twin Vertical No.19214

The old water pumping station at Langford in Essex is listed as a ‘Scheduled Ancient Monument', and this pump is one of the listed items. It is regularly run on compressed air. (2006)

Paxman Compound Horizontal Steam Engine

Originally this engine powered a dredger. Following salvage, it was restored by the apprentices at the Paxman factory in Colchester and presented to the City for display. It was subsequently not displayed and offered to the Museum of Power as a transferred asset. It has since been returned to full working order under the supervision of ex-test engineer at Paxmans, Alex Walford. Located in the main engine hall it is run regularly on compressed air. In the background is the Lilleshall Triple and vertical Joseph Evans ram pump. (2007)

Crossley Gas Engine c1915

Originally installed at the Pearl Dott workshop in North London. Has since been resotred and is used to drive a recreation of the original workshop. (2007)

Originally installed at the Britvic Factory in Chelmsford. (2007)

Weir Vertical Steam Pump 1939 No.B17016

Believed to have originated from Colchester water pumping station. (2007)

Weir Vertical Steam Pump 1951 3x4.5x6 No.260651

High pressure version for pumping fuel oil, originated from MOD Portland. (2007)

Greens Economiser Steam Engine

This engine is used to operate the scrapers located in the economiser of coal fired boilers, scraping the water tubes clear of soot and dust. (2007)

Joseph Evans Horizontal Reliable Pump 6x4½x9 No.35098

The left hand half of a twin circulating pump. Unfortunately the other half disappeared presumably for scrap. (2007)

Amos & Smith Steam Engine

Vertical single cylinder, manufactured in 1878 in Hull and was rescued from a Clydeside scrap yard. (2007)
